In addition to our three core programs, Resilience Advisory engagements focus on working with governments, foundations, and corporations across a range of resilience needs, challenges, and innovative solutions. We use a tailored approach, drawing on our vast experience with hundreds of communities worldwide, to facilitate participatory planning processes, leveraging our extensive portfolio of tools across resilience assessments, planning, and design.
Included within this portfolio, RCC supports local governments and communities in the preparation of Resilience Roadmaps, disaster recovery plans, and new community-led frameworks. We help our clients assess and prioritize risks and stresses, design and prioritize the initiatives, and develop the capacity needed to pursue them.
Additionally, we help foundations and private sector clients design their programs, investments, and products for the greatest resilience impact, drawing upon RCC’s deep experience working across government, private sector, and civic society.
The Urgency
Consider that in 2022 the U.S. alone witnessed more than 15 large-scale disasters, including the Western Wildfires and Hurricane Ian, each costing communities more than $1B. And across the globe disaster like flooding in South Asia to heat and humanitarian crises in Europe and Africa and infrastructure failures leaving communities like Jackson, Mississippi without water, are leaving communities and more businesses in need of resilience than ever.
These shocks and stresses are compounding. The ability of communities to recover and grow in the face of future shocks depends on the capacities that they will build in recovery from today’s crises.
To take advantage of the moment, multi-disciplinary stakeholders and private sector actors, spanning across fields of public infrastructure, urban energy, water systems, land use, mobility, insurance, local/regional food systems, public health, and individual property development, require investments in solutions focused on long-term change and integrated systems thinking, whether to transform business practices or communities to be more sustainable, equitable and resilient for all.
